Generative Technologies and Smart Cities
Inaugural address at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University:
My talk, titled "Generative Technologies and Smart Cities," explores everything from the technical aspects, such as ICT and artificial intelligence, to the metaphysical, philosophical, and spiritual dimensions that underpin these evolving urban landscapes. As generative technologies are applied to smart cities, the boundaries of what actually can be offered as a service move into human-preserved realms, such as our sense of self. When massive data are migrated to the cloud, smartness becomes tangent to vulnerability. We should not forget that.
N2 | Mindful Smart Cities and The Noosphere at 100
Over the past three years, Founder and CEO Dr Shima Beigi has contributed to various research projects and ideas at the Human Energy Project, and this year, we are proud that She is a featured keynote speaker amongst many inspiring minds at the Noosphere at 100 Conference. GOING BEYOND TECHNO-CENTRIC SMART CITIES WITH MINDFUL SMART CITIES - BY SHIMA BEIGI
In techno-centric smart cities, smartness is a technologically induced and enabled state where urban dwellers' future must be migrated. This form of smartness is, in short, machine-oriented, externally managed by a few players, invading the civil space of cities and is void of citizens' voice and agency over its directionality. The global awareness of the inadequacy of these visions in protecting citizens' rights and their ability to deliver livable, resilient and sustainable urban systems has led to a counter-smart movement. Cities' authorities, urban scientists, technology developers, and citizens gradually realise that building smarter systems takes more than technology. The Mindful Smart Cities framework is developed with similar awareness and a deep understanding that, in reality, techno-centricity is not a sin per se; it is a paradigm. It can change. However, changing paradigms requires a worldwide systemic change at various layers. By offering an action-oriented road map, Mindful Smart Cities provides a therapeutic and alternative pathway for transforming smart cities and citizens' lives from the inside out. In this vision, a city that uses technology in all its shapes and forms to improve the human condition without reducing humanity's life experience into some algorithmically curated and controlled state of being is called 'Mindful Smart Cities'. And anyone actively improving the quality of human life is an important part of the equation and, therefore, seen as a Mindful, Smart Citizen.
About the speaker
Dr Shima Beigi holds BSc, MSc, MSc and PhD from the University of Bristol and the University of Oxford. She specialised in the resilience of complex systems and smart city design, which she took to a higher level by integrating universal bodies of wisdom worldwide. Her PhD thesis, Mindfulness Engineering, was her first entry toward changing the current mechanical and top-down paradigm of design and living. In Mindful Smart Cities, she addresses the same pattern in the tech industry and provides a systemic manifesto-style roadmap for the future of smart city practice. Her book and philosophy result from more than 20 years of practice in engineering, complex systems, health and longevity as a certified yoga teacher and her work on the intersection of science and spirituality. She is currently CEO and Founder of Triple AI Therapeutics for Mindful Smart Cities, a blockchain and AI company she co-founded after her book's successful launch and the growing positive feedback on the need for more mindful and systemic approaches to smart cities.

Triple AI Podcast with Nicholas Plowman the Co-founder of Insight Timer App
Welcome to Triple AI Podcast, Episode 7:
In this special episode, CEO and Founder Shima Beigi sits down with the co-founder of the world-leading meditation app Insight Timer, the one and only Nicholas Plowman, to discuss how we can become better at transforming ourselves and our societies towards a more sustainable, peaceful life on Earth, and how technology can become an ally in this profound journey.
Nicholas is a Vedic Meditation teacher and a co-founder of 108. He also co-founded the meditation app Insight Timer, the largest online meditation community with 24 million+ users. In addition, he's an investor in One Eleven Health, an Ayurvedic wellness brand, and he has interests in several other projects as an owner, collaborator, and investor, including The Heal Zone, Be Here Nowra, and the Light Inside Project, a US-based meditation teaching programme for the incarcerated.
He supports and advises CulturalCollege, an Australian organisation focused on indigenous education programmes. A demanding corporate career and over two decades in the fast lane (he was an international executive at ESPN through his 20s and was co-founder of a technology software company in his 30s) found Nicholas stressed and fatigued.
At 39, Vedic Meditation transformed his life, health, and mindset, and he embarked on a new path in service to others.

Fridays With Attar: If Attar Was a Smart City Guru
Attar's message for his readers is to become aware of the inner and outer structures of consciousness and consciously embark on the journey of ‘full awakening’. Attar wants us to know that the full blossoming of human potential is possible, and full awakening is not limited to a few. The story of Conference of the Birds and the sheer diversity of the types of birds and characters involved in the story is, therefore, an invitation to become curious about our quest for truth. Now, since we are on this quest together and believe we can build smart cities differently, we are doing something a little bit different in this episode. We are asking questions and allowing Attar’s wisdom to guide us in our quest to build and live in truly Mindful and Smart Cities.
How can we use smart citizenship as a vehicle of full awakening?
In this episode of Fridays with Attar, I will explore the characteristics of each valley of Conference of the Birds and then analyse key takeaway messages of each valley that can be used in today’s modern and urban life.
Fridays with Attar: Staying on the Edge of Mystery in Smart Cities
We are searching for better cities. Cities that are liveable, resilient, sustainable, inclusive, smart, etc. But are we willing to do the inner work needed to get there?
Advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) powered by AI and advanced spatial computation technologies promise to solve some of the most complex problems of cities, namely climate change and delivering higher quality urban services.
However, with this degree of digitalisation comes a metaphysical question.
Is it possible to remain deeply connected to life's mystery while living in the smart cities of the future? This question directs this episode of Fridays with Attar: Staying on the Edge of Mystery in Smart Cities.
Urban Living Lab Summit: A Therapeutic Approach to Smart Cities
We are very excited to be selected by Amsterdam Institute for Metropolitan Studies to contribute to this year's 4th Urban Living Lab Summit in Amsterdam.
Triple AI Podcast: Issue 001 What are smart cities?
What is research telling us about these complex systems?
For today's issue 001, we selected five articles from the most-read research. First, the concept of smart cities is not an emerging contemporary concept.
At the start, it was called digital cities or tele-cities. The main focus was on the power structure of cities between governments and citizens. Then governments began using the digital force to re-establish their influence on people's lives.
CEO and Co-founder Shima Beigi addressed this in her book, Mindful Smart Cities, which you can find more on our website and other platforms.
Fridays with Attar: The Seven Valleys of Smart City Design
This Friday, the story's structure is used as a framework for smart city design. Shima Beigi, CEO and Co-founder of TAI/T, goes through the Conference of the Birds story’s structure and explores how the underlying philosophical message of this ancient work can be used as a guiding light. TAI/T’s approach to smart cities is guided by the Triple AI model, which includes the followings:
Awakened Individuals (AI.01)
Ancient Intelligence (AI.02)
Artificial Intelligence (AI.03)
Each of these forms of intelligence brings something unique to the Smart City conversation. Without awakened individuals, cities cannot become smart. Societies are lost without a solid appreciation of the universal body of ancient wisdom and intelligence. Without a resilient and meaningful application of artificial intelligence, the best technology cannot be realised. Thus, all these forms of intelligence are necessary building blocks of a truly smart city and civilisation.
Fridays with Attar: Smart Cities as Consciousness Gateways
In this Friday, TAI/T co-founders Shima Beigi and Dan Mapes get together and discuss how the practice of smart city creation can be used as a vehicle of human consciousness transformation and evolution.
Fridays with Attar: Barriers to Change and Decentralisation
On Fridays with Attar, we discuss how we are using the Triple AI Model and the powerful allegorical storytelling of Attar’s Conference of the Birds to offer what we call ‘Urban Therapeutics’. Our primary goal in these sessions is to help cities and people increase their awareness of the entire process of change, which means identifying obstacles and barriers to change. Farid-du-Din Attar's message in this ancient text is clear: No external force controls the faith of individuals or collectives. Change is possible; however, it requires commitment, intentional action, devotional attention, resilience, acceptance of reality, letting go of excuses, and willingness to remain in the process even when it is increasingly difficult. Attar also compassionately lets the readers know that it is natural to come up with excuses and resist change. To overcome this resistance, he offers a solution: Storytelling. Granted, we use the same story-telling technique and invite you to join us on this journey of transformation.
Fridays with Attar: The 30 Birds
This Friday 13 May 2022, CEO and co-founder Dr. Shima Beigi takes another deep dive into the mystical world of Farid Ud-Din Attar (c. 1145 – c. 1220 CE) and more specifically The Conference of the Birds”. This Friday we decided to expand on the structure of the story, Attar’s masterful choice of using birds as a symbol of different states of human consciousness, the universality and relevance of this ancient story for today’s and tomorrow’s Smart Cities.
Fridays with Attar: Introduction to The Conference of the Birds
In our Fridays with Attar events, CEO and Co-founder Shima Beigi goes deeper into the classic work of Attar, the Conference of the Birds and shares with you lessons that can be learned and adopted for our modern lives both at individual and collective levels.
